Texas Ballet Theater is excited to present our new season Two Great Cities, One Great Company where we will perform in four separate venues across the North Texas metroplex. The season kicks off with the Bad Boy of Ballet, Peer Gynt. Set to the music of Edvard Grieg including the beloved In the Hall of the Mountain King and based on Henrik Ibsen's story of the same name, Peer Gynt is a neo-classical ballet choreographed by Texas Ballet Theater's Artistic Director Ben Stevenson which continues this company's drive to bring artistic excellence to the stages of North Texas. You won’t want to miss this tale of betrayal, seduction, and true love with this really bad boy!

This season we are presenting two unique and thrilling mixed repertoire performances. The first will include Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries and Val Caniparoli’s Lambarena.

One of the first choreographers to break through the barriers dividing classical from modern dance, Tetley embraces the whole spectrum of movement. His piece Voluntaries, created in 1973 and performed the world over will enthrall audiences. Pointe Magazine calls Voluntaries a “masterpiece for seventeen dancers that is an affirmation of life in the face of death.”

Val Caniparoli’s Lambarena is a glorious and exuberant, visually stunning feast for the eyes. Texas Ballet Theater is thrilled to present this piece that treats the audience to a celebration of two cultures where incredible choreography, dancing, African rhythms and the melodies of Bach are infused to delight every soul!

The second mixed repertoire program will include George Balachine’s Theme and Variations and Ben Stevenson’s Mozart’s Requiem.

George Balachine’s Theme and Variations, with its glorious choreography and glittering costumes is a vision of the Imperial Ballet in its heyday at the Maryinksy Theatre. Classical, Romantic, and modernist all at once and demanding rigorous technical precision, it has been said that Theme and Variations was the “niece” of The Sleeping Beauty – bringing 19th century ballet to the 20th and now into the 21st. With music by Tchaikovsky.

Rated by The Dallas Morning News as the top dance performance of 2007, Texas Ballet Theater offers an encore performance of Ben Stevenson’s acclaimed Mozart’s Requiem. A moving tribute to the armed forces featuring the men of TBT, Mozart’s music comes alive and grieving moments give way to joy, affirmation, majesty, even frenzy.

And don’t forget to add on the perennial favorite The Nutcracker which this season is an all new production. Let Texas Ballet Theater’s The Nutcracker become the dazzling star atop your family’s holiday tree! From the moment the lights dim, you will be transported to a magical place that is filled with waltzing snowflakes, a flying carpet, a glittering swan sleigh, battling mischievous mice, adorable children and breathtaking dancing. This production is beloved by audiences of all ages and is not to be missed!

Lastly, don’t forget to add on the increasingly popular one night command performance of The Nutty Nutcracker, a laugh out loud spoof of the traditional holiday classic. Add a little nutty spice to your holiday with this hilarious PG-13 version where you never know which of your favorite current events and pop culture figures may appear on stage to entertain you!!
